Valve Bans 90,000 Accounts: More Punishments on the Way!

Ana sayfa / Games

While League of Legends is currently more popular, we all know that Dota is its predecessor. Dota 2 still ranks high on Steam’s list of most-played games. While its free-to-play nature is great, it also comes with certain problems, and smurf accounts are one of them.

Valve has banned 90,000 accounts in Dota 2 to combat smurfing!

In a statement shared on Dota 2’s official website, Valve announced that they have taken action against players who create new accounts and use their existing skill to dominate lower-skilled leagues alongside their higher-skilled accounts.

The act described in the previous paragraph is commonly referred to as “smurfing.” While this may satisfy experienced players’ egos, it often discourages new players who are trying to get into the game.

Dota 2 September 2 Update Out Now, Patch Notes

The September 2 update launched for Dota 2. The latest patch brings a bunch of bug fixes and improvements. Here are the Dota 2 patch notes.

Valve has banned 90,000 smurf accounts permanently as a measure to address this issue. But that’s not all. If a user continues to engage in smurfing after this, the consequences will be even more severe.

Players who persist in smurfing will not only have their smurf accounts banned, but their main accounts will also be identified and banned. It seems Valve is quite upset about this issue, and rightfully so.

In addition to the problem mentioned above, smurf accounts also exacerbate cheating, disrupt matchmaking in games, and encourage unsportsmanlike behavior, all of which significantly diminish the quality of gameplay.

In reality, this is also one of the biggest issues in games like League of Legends and Valorant. So, we hope Riot Games takes a cue from Valve on this matter. What are your thoughts on this decision? Please don’t forget to share your opinions in the comments.
